When you borrow from the Library of Stuff, you're helping to build a more robust, equitable, and sustainable community.
A library of stuff can help people to:
save money and space in their homes by borrowing instead of buying
enjoy items they wouldn't normally have access to
try expensive or uncommon items before they decide to purchase
reduce their environmental impact through less manufacturing, shipping, and waste
promote local skills in repair, reuse, and repurposing
move from being 'consumers' to being borrowers, lenders, donors, and contributors!

Heck yes! If you're interested in volunteering at the Library, we'd love to hear from you. Volunteers get free or reduced membership (depending on how much time you have to give), plus a super-rewarding feeling from contributing to a great community project.
We're looking for friendly, reliable, and caring people who are keen to do any of the following:
staff the library during opening hours: organising loans and returns, chatting with visitors
spruik the library and help with promotion, publicity and social media type stuff
contact suppliers, manufacturers and businesses to get financial support and product donations
help to clean, repair and maintain items in the library
organise and monitor our inventory and storage room
be on the organising committee and make important decisions about the Library's operations and future direction.

Who runs the Library of Stuff?
The Hurstbridge Library of Stuff is a 100% local, grassroots, zero-waste and circular economy project. It's is run entirely by volunteers: people who love their community and want to make it even better.
The Library idea began with local group SHIFT (Sustainable Hurstbridge: Ideas for Transition Inc.), and is now proudly owned and operated by the Hurstbridge Community Shed.
We're housed at the Hurstbridge Community Shed and service Hurstbridge and other towns in the Shire of Nillumbik.
